RAYMOND – Candian Boarder Services Agency officers seized 14.5 kg of suspected methamphetamine at the Del Bonita border crossing on Jan. 31.

It was concealed in the rocker panels of an SUV and officers made the discovery during a secondary examination of the vehicle.

A Calgary woman was arrested and turned over the RCMP.

40-year-old Season Truax from Calgary has been charge with 3 counts including importation and drug charges.

She was scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Court on Friday.

RCMP Spokesperson Cpl. Sharon Franks says this is a very significant bust.

“Seizures such as this, occuring regularly across the coutry in our partnership with CBSA, has an across-the-board impact on the harm reduction that can occur in our communities.”

Franks explains there is a sliding scale when considering the dollar value of a bust and wouldn’t attached a number to this specific seizure.

Last year CBSA officers in southern Alberta made 87 seizures of narcotics or chemicals, including three of suspected methamphetamine.

CBSA Superintendent Darryl Anderson says the officers at Del Bonita did an increible job with recognizing what police called “indicators”.

“It’s like a piece of the puzzle. So if the officers [there] picked up seven pieces of the puzzle, we have an idea of what it might be.”

Anderson says they then continue to build of those indicators.

“I’ve been in Southern Alberta for 20 years and I’ve never seen this amount of methamphetamine.”
