Canadian Blood Services Struggling for O-Negative Donations

Feb 1, 2016 | 9:30 AM

LETHBRIDGE – O-negative blood donors are in high demand.

Canadian Blood Services says only around seven-percent of Canadians have the blood type.

It’s especially important in emergency situations when there’s no time to check for a blood type, victims will automatically receive it.

Critical hospital patients like neonates, those with compromised immune systems and trauma victims require the blood, as well.

The goal is to increase their amount of active o-negative donors to 50-thousand.

If you know your type, they encourage you to have a family member book an appointment with you. They will usually have the same type.

You can book online at www.blood.ca, or download the Give-Blood app.
