Dog Licence Renewal Deadline Fast Approaching
LETHBRIDGE – If you haven’t already, it’s time to get your dog’s licence re-newed.
All dogs over six months old are required to be licenced under Lethbridge’s Dog Control Bylaw. If not, the owner could face a fine of up to $150.
If lost, licenced dogs are held for 10 days at the Animal Shelter, rather than three days if they’re found un-licenced. Also, if the dog is found injured, it’s easier to get ahold of the owner so the animal can get the best treatment possible.
However, Animal Control Officer, Skylar Plourde, explained that there’s currently no bylaw for cats. “It’s something that has been looked at in the past, and is being looked at again. We do have a voluntary cat licence program, which works the same as the dog [program]. If a cat shows up at a city shelter and has a licence with a number, we can run it and get ahold of an owner.”
