Family Centre Receives Financial Support from Government

LETHBRIDGE – The west Lethbridge Family Centre received $125-thousand from the Government of Alberta.

The centre, which will eventually be attached to the new Copperwood Elementary School, applied for funding last April. They received a confirmation letter for funding mid-January from the Community Facility Enhancement Program.

“The easier you make it for families to use your services, the more use they will get. So, that’s how we could argue that we needed to build a facility on the west side,”  said Executive Director, Peter Imhof, of the application process.

“We explained what we were doing, why we were doing it, and what kind of money we needed for this, and who’s helping already.”

The money will cover about 20-percent of the $600-thousand price tag of the capital project. Remaining funds came from Lethbridge School District 51, the City of Lethbridge and other private donors.

Imhof added now that most of the capital fundraising is complete, they can shift focus to operational costs. The centre will be hosting a gala on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17), with all proceeds going towards operational funds.

The new centre is slated to open its doors in September 2017.
