Program reductions and pool closure date at YMCA Stafford Branch announced

LETHBRIDGE – With construction on the Cor Van Raay YMCA at the ATB Centre moving steadily along, the decommissioning plan for the downtown Stafford branch has been revealed.

Officials at the branch outlined their plans during an all-staff meeting of the administration of the YMCA on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

A branch closure date for the Stafford facility is still being determined, so when the opening date for the Cor Van Raay YMCA has been announced, then a closure date will be solidified.

At the end of the day on Feb. 28, all programs will pause till the opening of the Cor Van Raay YMCA and the pool decommissioning will also commence.

The programs put on hold will include:

– All Fitness Classes, All Swimming Programming

– TGIF and Y Kids

– Evening Childminding

As of March 1, access at Stafford will remain open to the following: Conditioning Centre, Weight Room, Courts, Gymnasium, Indoor Play Space, Functional Fitness Area.

Additionally, as of March 1, the hours of operation at the Stafford branch will change.

– Monday to Friday: 5 a.m. – 9 p.m.

– Saturday: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

– Sunday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The childminding hours will now be between 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Birthday parties will continue at the Stafford branch, but no pool packages will be offered. Birthday parties will continue until the weekend before closure of the facility.

A release from the YMCA states the program reductions will allow the staff team to prepare for the Stafford decommissioning and allow for adequate training and preparation for the new Cor Van Raay YMCA at the ATB Centre.
