Sage Creek fire now held; evacuation alert lifted

Aug 21, 2018 | 5:08 AM

PINCHER CREEK – The Sage Creek fire in the southeast corner of British Columbia is now listed as “held.”

That’s good news for people in the Castle Mountain area who were under an evacuation alert. That alert has now ended. In addition, Alberta Parks has now ended its area closures in the west and south Castle Valley. A fire ban remains in effect.

All air quality advisories for southern Alberta have been lifted.

More than 100 firefighters continue to work on the Sage Creek fire, which remains entirely in B.C. The situation was helped Sunday, Aug. 19 by 5-10 mm of rain.

“This fire is now Being Held, which indicates that, with the resources currently committed to the fire, sufficient suppression action has been taken and the fire is not likely to spread beyond existing or predetermined boundaries under the prevailing and forecasted conditions.”

The M.D. of Pincher Creek said it would continue to be vigilant, working with its partners and monitoring the situation.
