Sage Creek fire now 65 per cent contained
PINCHER CREEK – The Sage Creek fire is now 65 per cent contained, as of Sunday, Aug. 19.
According to the latest update from the M.D. of Pincher Creek and the Government of British Columbia, the remote fire has not grown significantly since Aug. 16 and was not expected to grow Monday. It’s burning an estimated 1,947 ha.
More than 100 firefighters are working at the scene, with 11 helicopters and two air tankers.
The smoke situation improved enough Sunday that the air quality advisory was lifted for most regions of Alberta, including Lethbridge. It remained in effect for regions along the B.C. boundary including Pincher Creek, Waterton Lakes National Park, and the Crowsnest Pass. Most of B.C. is also under an advisory as the province deals with nearly 600 fires.
