The get-away that didn`t get very far

Jul 13, 2017 | 3:34 PM

WETASKIWIN –   The ability to evade capture after committing a crime usually rests on the quality of the get-away. Early Thursday morning in Wetaskiwin, things went badly for a couple of suspects – which is fortuitous for the police and the crime`s victim.

Police photos tell only a portion of the story.

Around 12:30-am on July 13th, RCMP were called to a stabbing in the common area of an apartment building in the town.

When officers arrived on-scene, they were told that two suspects were in a vehicle.   In their attempt to get away, the culprits struck a parked police vehicle, a parked civilian vehicle, and narrowly avoided hitting two officers.

The attempt to escape was short lived, when the suspects drove their vehicle into the side of a business not far away.

The driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle were arrested and taken to hospital. A 21-year-old man was treated and is in police custody, while a 23-year-old man is in stable condition in an Edmonton hospital.

The 32-year old male victim in this case suffered two stab wounds to the back, and is also in stable condition in an Edmonton hospital.

The matter is still under investigation but it has been determined that the victim and accused are not known to each other.

“This incident could have resulted in additional injuries to the public and our officers” says Inspector Keith Durance, Detachment Commander, Wetaskiwin RCMP, “Thankfully no one else was injured”.
