UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: Environment Canada expanded the wind warning region Monday afternoon, to include Lethbridge/Taber and all of southern Alberta. Wind gusts of 100 km/h are possible in Lethbridge, according to the latest forecast.

LETHBRIDGE – Potentially damaging wind is in the forecast for southwestern Alberta.

Early Monday, Jan. 29, Environment Canada issued a wind warning for the Fort Macleod, Cardston, Blood Reserve, Pincher Creek, Waterton, Piikani Nation, Crowsnest Pass, and Claresholm regions. Wind gusts could reach close to 120 km/h in the southern foothills, the weather service warned.

The reason is a low pressure system developing Monday in central Alberta. The strong wind will make its way eastward Monday night, and diminish by Tuesday morning.

Wind like this has the potential to damage windows and roof shingles. Loose objects may be blown around, and highway driving could be affected.

The forecast for Lethbridge predicted wind gusts up to 80 km/h Monday night.
