Canes’ forward Dylan Cozens makes controversial tiebreaker in semi-final win over USA
EDMONTON —– Josh Williams’ breakout Hlinka Gretzky Cup tournament continued on Friday night, booking Canada a spot in the gold medal game in controversial fashion.
The Medicine Hat Tigers winger scored a pair of goals for Team Canada, including the game-winner 1:44 into the overtime period to give the Canadians a 6-5 victory over the United States.
But it was how Canada was able to force overtime that caused a major stir, as officials ruled a goal from Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Dylan Cozens with 0.1 seconds left on the clock counted to tie up the game at 5-5.
On television replay it showed the clock had already hit zero by the time Cozens shot the puck, but no video replay for officials meant the tying goal would count.
