Lightning fall in Ranchland Hockey League final

NANTON, AB – They showed energy and a positive spirit, but that didn’t help the Lethbridge Lightning gain an edge over the Nanton Palominos in the final of the Ranchland Hockey League.

Down 2-0 going into Friday’s game three in the best of five series, Lethbridge was ready to bring the fire in Nanton and opened the scoring at the 6:30 mark of the first period on a goal from Shane Eyre.

Nanton slapped back with a goal of their own, but the Lightning’s James Price put the visiting Lethbridge back on top at 14:38. That was the final goal of the game for the team however, and Nanton took over for the remainder of the matchup.

Last season’s champions lit it up and finished the game with the 8-2 victory, winning the league title.

In a release, the team said, “Lethbridge Lightning players, Board members and volunteers want to thank all fans for their continued support and look forward to an exciting 2019/20 campaign which will see the Lightning hosting the Hockey Alberta Senior AA Provincial Tournament.”

Although RHL play has wrapped up, the Lightning will take part in this year’s Hockey Alberta Senior AA Provincials in Wainwright this coming weekend, March 28-31.
