Oct 14, 2016 | 10:31 AM

Advance polls open for the first time Friday in the federal byelection in Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner.

Four days have been set aside through Monday, Oct. 17 for early voting. Polling places are open each day between 12 noon and 8 p.m. Voters will need to bring identification that shows where they live.

The advance poll location is indicated on the back of the voter information card. People should ensure they refer to the clearly-labelled replacement card. You can also visit the Elections Canada website to find out where to vote.

For voters unable to take part in the regular or advance polls, there’s also the option of voting at an Elections Canada office, which must be done by Tuesday, Oct. 18, or by mail. Tuesday is also the deadline to apply for a mail-in voting kit.

The byelection is being held Monday, Oct. 24 to choose a successor to the late MP Jim Hillyer.

Six candidates are on the ballot: Kayne Cooper of the Rhinoceros Party, Libertarian Sheldon Johnston, Conservative Glen Motz, Stan Sakamoto of the Liberals, Rod Taylor of Christian Heritage, and the NDP’s Beverly Ann Waege.
