One person dead, 4 injured after collision with cattle on rural road
COALDALE – One person is dead, and four others have been injured, after a car collided with a number of cattle south-east of Lethbridge late Saturday night (July 1).
Coaldale RCMP say just before midnight, a White Ford Mustang with five people in it, was travelling along Range Road 212, when the driver encountered some cows that had wandered onto the paved road.
The car ended up in a nearby ditch after hitting a number of them.
Three people, including two children were taken to Chinook Regional Hospital, while one woman was taken to a Calgary hospital suffering from serious neck injuries.
The driver of the car, a 33-year old woman from Lethbridge, was killed. Her name has not been released.
Seven cows were also killed, including a number that had to be humanely put down.
Range Road 212 was closed for several hours, to allow for the area to be cleaned up and for the extrication of the car from the ditch.
Police say the cause of the collision is not clear, but an RCMP accident analyst will be consulted to help figure out what exactly happened and why.
