Enrolment up in Catholic school division
LETHBRIDGE — Enrolment is up at the Holy Spirit Catholic school division.
Superintendent of schools Chris Smeaton says the division is seeing an increase of 2.2 per cent over last year, which translates to 109 students.
“Nice to see our kindergarten numbers grew, and also watching our high school, especially our grade ten, those are very positive numbers,” Smeaton said.
He added numbers for rural enrolment were generally stable.
“A couple of drops, certainly out at Pincher Creek we had a drop, but we’re right in the middle of modernization and that’s to be expected,” he explained. That school currently has grades nine through 12 in a different building while work goes on.
The biggest increase was at Catholic Central, which is up by nearly 60 students. In addition, Smeaton said they had projected 180 or 190 students to attend the brand new St. Teresa of Calcutta, and the actual number is nearly 230.
