Recently acquired goaltender Liam Hughes has left the Lethbridge Hurricanes citing personal reasons

LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced on Monday, Jan. 21, that 19-year-old goaltender Liam Hughes has left the team.
Hughes issued a statement, which reads: “At this time I have decided to leave hockey for personal reasons. I’m sorry I can’t be more specific, but for me personally, it is the right time to step away from a game that I love. I want to thank all of my family, friends and fans for your support, as I pursued my hockey dreams. I leave with fond memories from the game and I am excited to start the next chapter in my life.”
The Hurricanes said in their own statement that they respect the decision made by Hughes and his family, that the entire organization wishes Hughes the best moving forward and that there will be no further comment from the hockey club.
Hughes and an eighth-round draft pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft were acquired by Lethbridge from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for forward Keltie Jeri-Leon, prospect Michael Horon and a fourth round draft pick in 2019 back on Jan. 1.
