Jan 8, 2017 | 9:23 AM

LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Community Foundation branch is now accepting applications for its Youth in Action grant, aimed at getting young people involved in philanthropy.

Eligible projects must be initiated, led and organized by an individual 25 years old or younger, in partnership with a Canada Revenue Agency registered charity.

Over the past five years, Community Foundation has awarded $48,000 to more than 45 projects. Those included anything from new recess equipment to band instruments and other community events promoting mental health awareness, reading, leadership and more.

“We are continually impressed with the great ideas our youth come up with when they apply for funding,” noted Charleen Davidson, executive director. “It’s also very exciting to see how they consider the overall benefit of their projects to their community or school. There are a lot of community-minded young people out there, and we’re very proud to support their initiatives.”

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Feb. 15. The selection process is handled by students from the University of Lethbridge Rotaract Club, and each project can receive up to $2,000.
