Teen at out of control Halloween party pleads guilty to assaulting a peace officer

LETHBRIDGE, AB – An 18-year-old man from Brooks, Alta. involved in an out of control Halloween party near La Cite Des Prairies last October, has pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a peace officer.

Peyton Thomas Kale Many Shots received a five-month conditional sentence order, half of which will be served as house arrest, and the other half, with a curfew. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of community service. He must abstain from alcohol and drugs and not possess any weapons for the duration of his sentence.

According to facts admitted to the court April 30, on October 28, 2018 a Lethbridge Police Officer attended a location south of the area the party was taking place, complaining that a handgun had been waived at him. The person got into the back of the police vehicle for protection, while the constable went to deal with what was called an unruly crowd of anywhere from 140 to 160 people.

Crown Prosecutor Erin Olsen says the officer saw fights breaking out and went to deal with those. Many Shots was one of those starting fights, and the officer moved in to deal with him, but another person got in the officer’s way. The officer moved to get that person out of the way, when he was tackled by Many Shots.

Many Shots then grabbed the officer by the torso area and knocked him to the ground, on top of the person he was trying to arrest for obstruction. There was a brief struggle, and Many Shots righted himself and left, while the officer sat on the person he was trying to arrest.

At that point, the officer tried calling for help on his radio, but the calls were not heard because of the volume of others speaking or yelling at the gathering.

The officer suffered some cuts and bruises, a sore neck and a headache, but he continued working that night.

The man the officer was initially trying to arrest for obstruction was released without charge, because police concluded the man was extremely intoxicated and likely didn’t have the intent to be anything but obnoxious.

According to Police, a hall at La Cite Des Prairies was rented for a party that got out of control. Damage to the hall was estimated at the time to be around $4,000.
