LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police have charged a 34-year-old woman in connection with an incident where a senior citizen was attacked and robbed in his garage.

According to police, they responded to a report of a 68-year-old man who had allegedly been assaulted in his garage along Simon Fraser Boulevard on June 11 around 7:20 p.m.

Further investigation determined the man had just arrived home and parked his vehicle in the garage when an unknown female entered through the overhead door.

She yelled at him and demanded his car keys, but when he refused, the woman wrapped her purse straps around his neck and proceeded to choke him.

The victim was able to break free, and as he attempted to use his phone to summon help, the woman grabbed it and fled.

A description of the woman was provided to police, and Amber Yvonne Herdman was located a short time later in a yard a few houses away.

Herdman is charged with robbery and assault with a weapon. She’s currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.

The man wasn’t injured as a result of the incident, and his cell phone was recovered.
