Skiing incident at Castle Mountain claims life of Lethbridge man
PINCHER CREEK — A Lethbridge man was confirmed as the victim of a skiing accident at Castle Mountain on Saturday, June 15.
Pincher Creek RCMP were notified about 2:00-pm that a 22-year old skier fell down a rocky slope on Mount Haig near the Castle Mountain Resort, after being hit by loose rock. The two skiers with the victim attempted first aid and were joined by hikers who were nearby.
Pincher Creek Emergency Services and Provincial Parks Conservation Officers were dispatched with the RCMP. Alpine Helicopters out of Canmore also responded and located the skier who was declared deceased on-sit.
Alpine Helicopters, with rescue technicians from Alberta Provincial Parks and Waterton Lakes National Park, required a long line to recover the skier.
