Southern Alberta schools make Fraser Institutes academic rankings list

CALGARY, AB – The Fraser Institute has released its annual rankings of elementary and secondary schools in Alberta.

The list gives parents the chance to compare the academic performance of schools across the province and is based off the 2017-2018 school year.

The ratings tool allows parents to also compare different schools in their area.

Master’s Academy & College in Calgary was listed at number one under the elementary school category, tied with Windsor Park in Edmonton and Renert School in Calgary. All three schools were listed at number one out of 852, with academic ratings of 10.

In southern Alberta, Vulcan Prairieview Elementary School ranked 65^th, with a score of 8.2. With the same ranking was CAPE (Centre for Academic and Personal Excellence) in Medicine Hat and Coaldale Christian School in Coaldale. Coalhurst Elementary School earned an academic rating of 7.6 (142 on the list), while West Meadow Elementary School in Claresholm had a rating of 7.4 (173 on the list).

St. Patrick’s Fine Arts Elementary School in Lethbridge is in the 203^rd spot on the list, securing a score of 7.2. Calvin Christian School was listed at 220 with an academic rating of 7.1.

Medicine Hat’s Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre rounded out the top 300 for the southern Alberta region at 265, with a rating of 6.9 out of ten.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Focusing on secondary schools across Alberta, three institutions were listed in the number one spots with a rating of 10 out of 10.

They are Old Scona Academic School in Edmonton, Webber Academy in Calgary and Calgary French & International School.

For Southern Alberta, Vauxhall Junior Senior High School received a score of 8.4, placing 17^th out of 262 schools. Erle Rivers High School in Milk River was given a score of 7.6, placing the school at number 39.

W.R. Myers High School in Taber was listed at 52, with a rating of 7.2. Magrath Junior Senior High School was given a score of 7.0, placed at number 60 on the list.

Raymond High School also landed in the 60^th spot, with a rating of 7.0.

McCoy High School in Medicine Hat had a rating of 6.9 (67^th on the list). F.P. Walshe School was listed at 80^th. The Fort Macleod school received a rating of 6.8.

Coalhurst High School received a rating of 6.6 for a placement of 93^rd on the list. Livingstone School and Immanuel Christian Secondary School rounded out the top one hundred with ratings of 6.5.
