LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 34-year-old woman charged in connection with an alleged attack on a senior citizen on the city’s west side, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Amber Yvonne Herdman has been charged with one count of robbery, and one count of assault with a weapon. She also has an outstanding shoplifting charge. She is currently in custody at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre.

An agent for her lawyer has elected a trial in provincial court. The date has yet to be determined.

Lethbridge Police say on June 11, a 68-year-old man had just arrived at his home and parked his vehicle in his garage, when a woman entered through an overhead door.

The woman yelled and demanded his car keys, and when he refused, the woman wrapped her purse straps around the man’s neck and attempted to choke him.

The victim was able to break free, but when he tried to use his phone to get help, the woman grabbed it and took off.

Police found the woman in a yard a few houses away. The man was not injured, and his cell phone was recovered.
