Work on Park “n” Ride Transit Terminal to force downtown road closures

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Construction is set to wrap up on downtown Lethbridge’s new parking and transit terminal.

To complete their work, the intersection of 5th Ave and 8th Street will close on Monday, July 8th.

“This will result in no through traffic on both 8 St as well as 5 Ave from 7 St east. There will still be access to the Lethbridge Public Library from Stafford Dr,” reads a release from the City of Lethbridge.

As crews progress west down 5th Ave, the intersection will reopen and instead force the closure of 5th Ave and 7th Street. They will be working to increase traffic control around the new facility.

New signal lights will be installed at both intersections along with “bulb outs” which will extend the sidewalk curbs and reduce the crossing distance.

The City of Lethbridge says the entire road work project should be finished by the end of July, while the Park ‘n’ Ride Transit Terminal will open in early September.

“The Lethbridge Regional Park ‘n’ Ride Transit Terminal will create a vibrant, safe and convenient hub in downtown Lethbridge. The facility will provide residents with a comfortable and safe location to access City transit services that is protected from weather and offers amenities such as ticketing and washroom facilities.”

The project will add 293 parking stalls to the downtown core.
