CLARESHOLM, AB – A Calgary man was arrested by Claresholm RCMP in connection with a stolen vehicle.

Mounties say that in the early hours of July 4, a 2012 Dodge RAM truck was stolen from a Claresholm residence. Later that morning, the vehicle was spotted in a farmyard near Stavely.

According to the RCMP, the landowner approached the vehicle, which then sped off. The landowner marked down the license plate and Mounties said that confirmed the vehicle was the same one stolen earlier in the day.

RCMP patrolled the area and tracked down the truck near Highway 533 and Highway 22. It had been abandoned, but the driver was eventually tracked down in a forested hilly area and arrested.

Nanton RCMP and the RCMP Police Dog Services assisted in the search.

Mounties have charged 42-year-old Shaun Storie of Calgary with two counts of possession of stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police, assault with a weapon on a police officer, resist arrest, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, possession of carfentanil and possession of cocaine.

Storie will appear in Fort Macleod Provincial Court on Wednesday, July 10.
