CP Rail Police investigating train vs. motor vehicle collision

BROOKS, AB – Brooks RCMP teamed with the Brooks Fire Department, EMS and CP Rail Police Friday evening to respond to a collision between a train and a pickup truck.

Crews responded at around 6:30 p.m. on July 12 near the Brooks Aqueduct.

Police found a 2008 GMC Sierra that had been severely damaged from being struck by a train after attempting to go across the rails.

Two people in the truck had to be extracted by the Brooks Fire Department.

The 21-year-old driver, noted by RCMP as being from Bassano, was taken to hospital by EMS with serious but non life-threatening injuries. The female passenger, a 17-year-old from Brooks, was also taken to Brooks Hospital in critical condition.

She was flown by STARS to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary where she remains. Her status has been upgraded to stable.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by Canadian Pacific Rail Police.
