LETHBRIDGE, AB – Kariya Lepko arrived in Toronto Thursday morning to prepare for the 2019 Canadian Championships in Trampoline Gymnastics.

Although she took part in last year’s nationals that were hosted by Lethbridge as well, Lepko says she is still “a little nervous” for the event.

She has been hard at work at West Wind Gymnastics for months to prepare.

“I’ve just been doing my regular training, like, a lot more hours and a lot more conditioning, and just trying to rest and make sure my mind is in the right place and not being nervous or anything like that.”

Although she is only 17-years-old, Lepko has been competing in tumbling events for the last eight years while taking part in gymnastics competitions for even longer.

She says her trainers and fellow athletes have been a huge help.

“They’ve been really supportive, which is just great, and they help to motivate me to do my routines and get everything done.”

Lepko will start competing in the preliminary rounds Saturday morning, and if she makes it to finals, she will be up again Sunday morning.

The Alberta Gymnastics Federation website will have a live stream of the event.
