TORONTO, ON – Dan MacKenzie has been named the first ever full-time President of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL).

The former National Basketball Association (NBA) executive will start in his new role with the CHL in September and will report to the CHL Executive Council.

The Council is comprised of the commissioners of the three member leagues that make up the CHL: David Branch of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Gilles Courteau of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and Ron Robison of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

According to a release from the WHL, MacKenzie will be responsible for “growing the game, along with enhancing the player and fan experience.”

For the last eight years, MacKenzie has served as the Managing Director of NBA Canada. Dan Branch, who has held the dual role of Commissioner of the OHL and President of the CHL since 1996, will continue in his role with the OHL.

The Canadian Hockey League is comprised of 60 teams across Canada and the United States. Locally, the Lethbridge Hurricanes are a part of the WHL.
