LETHBRIDGE, AB – When students arrive at school on September 3rd, they can expect to see a series of newly-finished renovations.

Lethbrdige School District No. 51 says they are working to complete a “long list of summer projects” at several of their facilities.

On the go this summer are a classroom division at Gilbert Paterson Middle School, a classroom enclosure and storage work at Coalbanks Elementary, the construction of a concrete bike rake at Dr. Probe Elementary, and work continues on the ventilation and electrical systems at Westminster Elementary.

At Senator Buchanan Elementary, crews are making upgrades to the ventilation and electrical systems while installing air conditioning on the second floor for the first time. Classrooms on the second floor are also getting facelifts, including brand new BrightLink Interactive Projectors that are replacing the current SmartBoards.

Also at Buchanan, the main office is being made larger. The main floor will eventually get air conditioning, as well as ventilation and lighting improvements at the gym and a large glass wall in the learning commons.

BrightLink systems have been installed at all elementary schools in the district and will eventually be at the middle and high schools.

Next week, crews will plant silver maple wishtrees at every school in the district in honour of last year’s One District One Book initiative.

Other projects include the main stairwell and landings at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, painting at Winston Churchill High School, and cleaning, waxing, and painting in all schools.

Planter maintenance at Park Meadows Elementary will be accompanies by the planting of a few bushes to spruce up the building’s exterior.
