LETHBRIDGE, AB – You can have your say on the potential farm safety regulations of tomorrow.

Lethbridge-East MLA Nathan Neudorf and Agriculture and Forestry Minister Devin Dreeshen are holding a community conversation about the Act.

“This will be an opportunity for you to learn more about the legislation, provide feedback for consideration and gather information about next steps,” reads a media release from the provincial government.

The United Conservatives say that they know operating a farm is different than running most conventional businesses, and believe the proposed legislation will add more flexibility to meet workplace standards.

“The government plans to introduce the Farm Freedom and Safety Act this fall to put choice back in the hands of farmers and have legislation that reflects the uniqueness of this sector.”

The Farm Freedom and Safety Act proposes to give farmers the option of buying workplace insurance from the Workers’ Compensation Board or other suppliers as long as basic coverage is provided, exempt small farms from employment legislation, ensure basic safety standards are in place, and reduce regulatory burdens on farmers and ranchers.

The meeting takes place from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 21st at the Holiday Inn Express South East (217 41 Street South).
