Fire deemed accidential

No injuries reported in west Lethbridge fire

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A fire on the west side of Lethbridge caused an estimated $150,000 in damage early Wednesday morning.

According to the City of Lethbridge, several 911 calls were received reporting a structure fire on Selkirk Road W. at around 5:10 a.m. on August 21.

19 firefighters from four stations responded to the scene. On arrival, they found a garage fully engulfed in flames, according to a release from the City.

The blaze was found to be spreading to the residence, trees and neighbouring property. Crews extinguished the fire within an hour and a half. No injuries were reported.

Following an investigation, the fire was deemed accidental.

The release included a reminder from Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services that when smoking, residents should ensure they are always aware of their surroundings and always dispose of smoking materials properly, in a non-combustible container filled with sand or water.
