Driver near Brooks allegedly caught going 219 km/hr

BROOKS, AB – Brooks RCMP says they were doing patrols on Highway 1 when they reportedly caught two vehicles going excessively fast.

They were in the area of 1st and 2nd Street West in Brooks at 11:00 pm on Saturday, August 31st.

RCMP claim that they caught one of the vehicles on their radar travelling at a speed of 219 km/hr. The vehicle was stopped at the entrance to the town.

There were two passengers in the vehicle, including one youth.

Their investigation found that both vehicles were racing each other.

According to the attending officers, it was raining at the time, which created even more unsafe conditions for everyone involved.

A 21-year-old man from Calgary is facing one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance and is scheduled to appear in Brooks Provincial Court on October 9th, 2019.

The identity of the other driver is still under investigation.

This is the second recent incident of extreme speed near Brooks that was caught by RCMP. On August 12th, a driver reportedly went as fast as 226 km/hr. More details here.
