LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge says swimming and boating is now permitted on the Oldman River, both for “The public (and dogs!)”

On Tuesday, September 3rd, anywhere from 3,500 and 4,500 litres of cooking oil was leaked into the city’s stormwater drainage system, which later made its way into the river. This is the equivalent of 10-15 average-sized bathtubs. More details here.

The City’s Water and Wastewater department says the substance is no longer entering the river and has been fully contained and removed.

The equipment that was used to clean it up should be removed in the next few days.
