Climate Strike planned at Lethbridge City Hall Friday

Sep 27, 2019 | 8:09 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Youth, the Raging Grannies, University of Lethbridge professors, and the greater community in Lethbridge are set to march at city hall.

As part of the Global Week of Climate Action, inspired by activist Greta Thunberg, they will be “demanding real action from adults on climate change.”

The Facebook group “Lethbridge youth climate strikes” also calls for building renewable energy, adapting for climate change, and getting off of fossil fuel.

The event is organized in part by 16-year-old Lethbridge resident Sydney Whiting. She tells Lethbridge News Now that she is expecting more than 50 people to be at the strike.

Whiting writes that the event will be a “peaceful, non-artisan, and non-confrontational way to raise awareness for climate change and the lasting effects of political, social, and economic inaction.”

The strike takes place from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, September 27th at Lethbridge City Hall.
