MEDICINE HAT, AB – ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) has arrested a southern Alberta man on numerous charges involving a child and several dogs.

26-year-old Cody Herrell was arrested on Thursday, September 26th after a search warrant was executed at his home in Medicine Hat.

He has been charged with sexual assault, bestiality, and accessing, possessing, and distributing child pornography.

“ICE alleges the suspect had been accessing child pornography online, and his computers and electronic devices were seized,” reads a media release from ICE. “Further investigation revealed additional sexual offences committed against at least one unidentified child, who is believed to be known to him, and other alleged sexual offences involving several dogs.”

Sgt. Kirt Murray says their primary concern is providing the necessary support and resources to the affected family.

ICE reports that Herrell does not work in a position of trust and/or authority.

He has been released from custody on a number of court-imposed conditions, including not to have any contact with children and to not attend any public areas where children may be present.

The suspect is next scheduled to appear in court October 17th.

ICE, alongside Medicine Hat Police, began their investigation in February 2019 when the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre provided details about an unknown suspect in the area uploading child pornography.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Medicine Hat Police at 403-529-8481.
