Hurricanes fall 3-2 to Saskatoon, nine penalties issued to both teams

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes welcomed the Saskatoon Blades to the Enmax Centre Wednesday, October 2nd.

This is the first meeting between these clubs this season.

First period:

#24 Dylan Cozens, who recently returned to the Hurricanes from the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres and was named the WHL’s and CHL’s Player of the Week, hit the ice for the first faceoff, beating #11 Tristen Robins for the puck.

The Blades got off to a strong start, scoring the first goal of the contest just under four minutes in. #19 Zach Huber hit the net with assists from #5 Aidan De La Gorgendiere and #18 Libor Zabransky.

Two-minute penalty for #11 Dino Kamietz of the Hurricanes at the 7:43 mark.

At 16:38, Zabransky got a two-minute penalty for interference.

The Hurricanes, still on a power play, tied up the game at 17:59. Cozens, with assists from #2 Calen Addison and Kambeitz, got Lethbridge on the scoreboard.

Second Period:

The second period kicks off the same way the first did – Cozens wins the first faceoff against Robins.

4:08 in, #27 Nolan Kneen of the Blades was handed a two-minute penalty for tripping.

#18 with the Hurricanes Zack Stringer was given a penalty of his own at 5:20 for interference.

A mere 10 seconds later at 5:30, Lethbridge’s #8 Oliver Okuliar earned a penalty for tripping.

The Blades got their second penalty of the period, as Jayden Wiens was punished for roughing at 9:57.

Nearing the end of the period, #28 with the Blades Cyle McNabb was given a penalty for interference at 19:05.

The second period ends with the game still being tied 1-1.

Third Period:

The Hurricanes took a 2-1 lead just 0:41 into the third period. #27 Logan Barlage scored for Lethbridge with assists from Cozens and Addison.

The Blades’ #41 Kjell Kjemhus earned a penalty at 3:14 for roughing.

#29 Koletrane Wilson with the Hurricanes got a penalty for tripping at 12:30.

With there minutes left to play, the Blades scored two goals in just 14 seconds. #9 Jayden Wiens first scored with an assist from #49 Jerzy Orchard, which was almost immediately followed up by a goal from #6 Scott Walford. The second goal had assists from $16 Kyle Crnkovic and #27 Nolan Kneen.

With that, the Blades came out victorious 3-2 over Lethbridge.

The Hurricanes outshot Saskatoon 38-22 in the contest.

Up next for Lethbridge, they are at home on Friday, October 4th against the Portland Winterhawks.
