Lethbridge Corn Maze to hold annual fundraiser Monday

Oct 13, 2019 | 8:00 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Slingerland family, well known for their creative corn mazes every year, will be holding their 20th annual fundraiser on Thanksgiving Monday (Oct. 14).

The event runs from noon until 6:00-pm.

This year, all proceeds of admission will go to the Thiessen family in Mango, Togo. Surgeon Jesh Thiessen, has been sent by Samaritan’s Purse to the Hospital of Hope to work with those in need of medical assistance. The hospital sees around 3,000 patients from Ghana, Burkina Faso and Benin each year, while its doctors and surgeons visit another 20,000 people as outpatients.

The hospital is staffed mainly by missionary physicians, assistants, nurses and support staff.

Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational Christian organization that provides aid to victims of war, famine, poverty, disease and persecution.

Thiessen, his wife and their three children are now living and working in the west African country that borders the Gulf of Guinea.

The Slingerland family also supports four children through World Vision.

The corn maze will remain open until Oct. 26. This year’s design honours the 75th anniversary of Juno Beach D-Day. In years past, the corn maze has been paid tribute to the loonie, toonie, the High-Level Bridge and Alberta’s birthday.
