Hurricanes shut-out Warriors 6-0 in Moose Jaw

MOOSE JAW — A big reversal of fortunes for the Hurricanes Tuesday night in the final of a four-game road trip. This night, they were in Moose Jaw and two Hurricane players posted two goals each.

Just over five minutes into the game, Alex Cotton took advantage of a power play to put the Canes on thee scoreboard, assisted by D-Jay Jerome and Koletrane Wilson.

A smattering of penalties were charted after that first goal, including a five-minute major for fighting against the Canes’ Dino Kambeitz and Warriors player Alek Sukunda, who was also tagged with a minor for interference.

At the 15-minute mark, D-Jay Jerome single handedly sends the puck through the pipes, putting the Canes ahead 2-0, which was the score when the buzzer ended the first 20-minutes of play.

The Hurricanes racked up a single minor penalty in the first half of the second period. As play approached the 13-minute mark, D-Jay Jerome potted his second of the game, this one on a power play It was the lone goal of the period, as the Canes outshot the Warriors 14-7 in the first 40-minutes and lead in goals 3-0.

The final frame saw the Canes add to their tally and regular intervals. At the five-minute mark, Noah Boyko scored on an assist from Calen Addison and Jett Jones. Four minutes later, Alex Cotton added his second of the game, taking the score to 5-0. And, with just over a minute remaining in the game, Justin Hall tapped in his first of the season, off an assist from Koletrane Wilson and Noah Boyko.

Carl Tetachuk earns his first shut-out of the season and the third of his career, while the Canes outshot the Warriors 39-19.

The win takes the Hurricanes’ record to 5-4-0-1. The team’s next game is Friday (Oct 18), when they host the Regina Pats.
