Hurricanes put Warriors away in overtime

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Make that four in a row for the Hurricanes!

Lethbridge followed up a sweet 2-1 victory over Regina Friday night with a 5-4 overtime win against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors Saturday night, Oct. 19.

The first period saw five goals from the two teams combined, exciting the crowd of over 3300 at the ENMAX Centre.

Moose Jaw’s Jadon Joseph scored his sixth goal of the season at 3:03 to put the Warriors up 1-0 early. Lethbridge’s Dylan Cozens responded less than a minute later at 3:54 to record his eighth goal of the year.

After that it was two in a row from MJ. Eric Alarie scored on the power play at 11:14. This was followed by an Owen Hardy goal at 13:03 to put Moose Jaw up 3-1.

Oliver Okuliar brought the ‘Canes closer at 17:09, scoring his fifth of the season. At the end of one frame, it was 3-2 for Moose Jaw.

Just over five minutes into the second period, Dino Kambeitz recorded his third goal of the campaign, tying the game at 3-3.

Two minutes later, at 7:42, Noah Boyko put the ‘Canes up 4-3. Before the second period was up, Jadon Joseph scored his second goal of the game.

That tied things up going into the third and final frame.

The last period saw no goals, which meant the game was headed to overtime!

The extra period didn’t last long, but it was Hurricanes fans that were cheering when the winning goal was scored.

At 1:36, Logan Barlage scored his second goal of the season – off assists by Okuliar and Koletrane Wilson. When all was said and done, the ‘Canes earned the 5-4 win.

Interesting to note was the lack of penalties called in the game.

Referees only handed out two – Ty Nash of the Hurricanes was called for boarding at 10:34 of the first period, and Moose Jaw’s Drae Gardiner was called for delay of game at 17:33 of the second period.

The Hurricanes will look to extend their winning streak to five when they face the Rebels in Red Deer on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Up next for the Warriors is a return home to host Calgary on Friday, Oct. 25.
