Voter turnout up in all southern Alberta ridings

70.67% voter turnout across southern Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – All four of southern Alberta’s electoral ridings saw a slightly higher percentage of voters cast their ballots in the 2019 federal election.

For this article, LNN is considering southern Alberta to consist of four ridings: Lethbridge, Bow River, Foothills, and Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner. Full results can be found on the Election 2019 tab on our website here.

LNN reported on Friday that advance voter turnout was up 60% across the region. A full breakdown can be found here.

The updated numbers from Elections Canada include advance voter numbers, those who voted by mail, and those who voted on the general voting day. They do not, however, include those who registered to vote on the day of the election.

As reported by Elections Canada, voter turnout in the region are as follows:

SOUTHERN ALBERTA:

Out of 331,581 people who were eligible to vote across the four ridings, 234,320 (70.67%) cast their ballots.

This marks an increase of 4.77% from the 2015 vote when 67.45% voted.

LETHBRIDGE:

Out of 88,226 people who were eligible to vote, 63,339 (71.79%) cast their ballots.

This marks an increase of 6% from the 2015 election when 67.71% voted.

BOW RIVER:

Out of 78,944 people who were eligible to vote, 54,357 (68.81%) cast their ballots.

This marks an increase of 4.43% from the 2015 election when 65.89% voted.

FOOTHILLS:

Out of 86,027 people who were eligible to vote, 64,290 (74.73%) cast their ballots.

This marks an increase of 2.3% percent from the 2015 election when 73.05% voted.

MEDICINE HAT-CARDSTON-WARNER:

Out of 78,384 people who were eligible to vote, 52,334 (66.77%) cast their ballots.

This marks an increase of 2.44% from the 2015 election when 65.18% voted.
