U of L and Lethbridge College Weekend Sports Preview: Oct. 25-27, 2019

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It’s another weekend of action for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. Here’s a snapshot of some of the games and competitions.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

The cross-country teams head up to Calgary for the ACAC Championships tomorrow, Oct. 26. The races are hosted by SAIT and take place at Confederation Park.

The women’s team is first in all of Canada and are led by third year Sophia Nowicki – the defending ACAC and CCAA champion. She hasn’t lost an ACAC or CCAA sanctioned race in two seasons, with a winning streak of nine straight events.

The men’s team ranks ninth in the standings. Connor Jackson picked up his first ACAC podium finish when he placed second at a Grand Prix hosted by SAIT in September. The women’s race starts at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow (Oct. 26) with the men’s race at 1:00 p.m.

The ACAC Soccer Championship tournament starts this weekend. The Kodiaks women’s team finished first in the south division and will get a first-round bye. They start the tournament with a semi-final matchup against either Concordia University or Olds College. Those two teams meet in a quarter-final game today, Oct. 25.

The men’s soccer team placed second at the regular season’s end. They’ll face The King’s University Eagles in the quarterfinals at 4:00 p.m. today (Oct. 25) at NAIT.

In basketball, the men’s team faces Medicine Hat College today at 8:00 p.m. in regular season action. Tomorrow, Oct. 26, it’s a meeting with St. Mary’s University. Both games are at 8:00 p.m.

The women’s club also face Medicine Hat and St. Mary’s, with their games at 6:00 p.m. tonight and tomorrow.

Both volleyball teams are off this weekend before matchups against Olds College November 1 and 2.

U OF L PRONGHORNS

The men’s basketball team heads across the border to Great Falls, Montana for the Providence Tournament. They play the University of Providence tonight, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. before a Saturday matchup against Rocky Mountain College. Tomorrow’s game is at 5:30 p.m.

The women’s team is staying in Canada. They face the University of Victoria tonight at 5:00 p.m. in Calgary. Tomorrow, it’s a meeting with trinity Western University at 8:00 p.m. in YYC.

The swimming club is up against the University of Calgary today, Oct. 25. Next weekend, they’ll be in Vancouver for the Colleges Cup – West.

The women’s soccer team is in playoff action this afternoon, Oct. 25. They’re in Saskatoon against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds at 1:00 p.m.

The men’s team’s season came to an end last weekend as they did not qualify for the playoffs.

On the ice, the women’s hockey team is in Edmonton for two games against the University of Alberta Pandas. This evening’s game is at 7:00 p.m., with a matchup tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the men’s squad is at home against the University of Alberta. Tonight, they play at 7:00 p.m. and tomorrow, fans can catch the ‘Horns in action at 7:00 p.m.
