Local company fined for workplace accident

REGINA — A southern Alberta company has been fined 60-thousand dollars for a workplace accident in Saskatchewan that seriously injured a worker.
Varsteel Limited of Lethbridge pleaded guilty in a Regina courtroom in late September to one count under provincial occupational health and safety rules.
The charge relates to failing to ensure no material or equipment is placed, stacked or stored in such a way that it poses a hazard.
The court heard the worker was struck by two bundles of steel at a site near Regina in late August 2017.
