LETHBRIDGE, AB – *UPDATE: Taber-Vauxhall RCMP Const. Ryan Di-Loreto says four vehicles were involved in two separate, but related collisions.

Around 6:30 a.m., a car making a left hand turn from Highway 3 onto RR 153 was struck by an oncoming SUV. The male passenger in the SUV was airlifted to hospital in Calgary, after suffering serious injuries. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

Just after the initial collision occurred, two additional cars were involved in a rear-end accident, while trying to avoid the first collision.

Di-Loreto says neither weather nor road conditions played a factor in the crash, and alcohol also does not appear to have played a role.

The M.D. of Taber Fire Department, RCMP, and EMS were called out to an area just east of the community early Friday morning.

A collision involving four vehicles occurred along Highway 3 and Range Road 153 at approximately 6:48 am.

Emergency crews extricated one person from their vehicle using the Jaws of Life. The patient was taken to hospital in Calgary via STARS Air Ambulance.

“We gratefully acknowledge the presence of Chief Rudy Unger of Station 2 who was first on scene and who relayed valuable information to responders,” reads a social media post from M.D. of Taber Regional Fire Service. “Thank you as well to the many citizens who assisted in comforting the injured prior to the emergency crews arrival.”

The accident is under investigation.
