Prince Albert Raiders post 5-3 win against Hurricanes

LETHBRIDGE — After successive wins against Vancouver and Swift Current, the Hurricanes may have expected to continue rolling, but they were playing Prince Albert Friday (Nov 22) night.

Things got off to a good start. Just five minutes into the first period, Noah Boyko took the puck on an assist from Calen Addison and Zack Stringer and sent it past P-A’s Boston Bilous, to put the Canes on the board.

The 1-0 score didn’t last long. A minute later, Ozzy Wiesblatt came in for the Raiders to even the score 1-1. P-A added to its tally at 14:20 and again at 15:48, when Aliaksei Protas lobbed a short-handed goal, giving his team a 3-1 lead. That’s where the score remained when the buzzer sounded.

The second frame brought redemption for the Canes. Four minutes in, D-Jay Jerome manoeuvered a power play into his team’s second goal, assisted by Koletrane Wilson and Zac Stringer. Less than a minutes later, Logan Barlage added another goal to tie the game at 3-3.

The 3-3 score held to the end of the period, as the Canes were out-shooting the Raiders 24-19.

The Raiders hit the ice in the third period, looking to break the tie. Five minutes in, Canes goalie Carl Tetachuk faced down a Raider’s player on a breakaway. It went to review and was deemed ‘no goal’.

Just a minute later the opponents were back at the Canes’ net and this time it hit the mark taking the score to 4-3.

The Hurricanes continued to lead in shots-on-goal (33 to 27) but, with a minute remaining in regulation, the Canes pull Tetachuk, hoping to tie the game. Unfortunately, Raider Aliaksei Protas scored his second goal of the game, giving Prince Albert a 5-3.

The Hurricanes are 15-7-0-3 in the standings and travel to Red Deer for a game against the Rebels on Saturday.
