(UPDATE) COALHURST — Mounties have released more information on a fatal collision Monday night.

Coaldale RCMP responded to Highway 3 at the intersection leading into Coalhurst at around 7:15 p.m. They say two vehicles were involved.

One was travelling westbound on Highway 3 and collided with the other, which was stopped at the stop sign on 51st Street. The driver of the stopped vehicle, a 66-year-old woman from Coalhurst was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The other driver was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge with “undetermined but not life threatening injuries”.

As a result, traffic was restricted to one lane on Highway 3 and re-routed within Coalhurst for a number of hours to allow for an investigation.

Coaldale RCMP have been assisted by a Calgary-based RCMP Collision Analyst. RCMP say that road conditions for not a factor. Alcohol and speed are considered contributing factors to the collision.

The highway and road have since been re-opened. The name of the deceased will not be released.

Coaldale RCMP are asking for anyone with further information to contact them at (403) 329-5080.
