Winter Storm Warning Issued by Environment Canada Tuesday afternoon

Snowfall warnings & special weather statements for southwestern Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – UPDATE: As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for southwestern Alberta with between 20 cm and 50 cm of snow expected over the next couple of days.

Areas included in the warning are Pincher Creek, Cardston, Fort Macleod, Waterton Lakes National Park, Magrath, Crowsnest Pass and the Pikanii Reserve.

Moderately strong, gusty winds are also likely to develop on Wednesday, creating poor visibility in some areas.

If you live south of Calgary and west of Lethbridge, there is a good chance that you are under a winter weather advisory of some kind.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for areas that include Claresholm, High River, and Okotoks.

Anywhere between 10 and 20 cm of snow is expected locally while upwards of 50 cm is forecast for certain higher elevations.

Also, in communities that include Cardston, Magrath, Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek, the Crowsnest Pass, Piikani First Nation, and Waterton Lakes National Park, they are under a special weather statement.

A surge of arctic air will bring colder temperatures into the region on Tuesday, which will help to generate prolonged periods of snowfall. Between the publication of this article and Thursday morning, these areas can brace for 20-30 cm of snow.

Cardston and the Crowsnest Pass could get around 50 cm of snow.

Environment Canada says the special weather statement could become a snowfall warning later in the day on Tuesday.
