Hurricanes defeat Regina 4-1 and lead WHL with 37 points

LETHBRIDGE — An interesting first period, as the Hurricanes hammered the Regina net with 21-shots-on-goal, to the Pats’ four shots. Keeping up the pressure, Dino Kambeitz picked up on the assist from Dylan Cozens to land the first goal at the periods mid-way point. That goal stood alone at the end of the period, with the Canes ahead 1-0.

The Pats picked up the pace in shots-on-goal in the second frame. However, the 20-minutes went by without a goal from either side and just five minor penalties. The score remained at 1-0 for Lethbridge.

Entering the third period, the Canes continued to lead in shots-on-goal. At the 4:30 mark, Dino Kambeitz scored his second of the game, with the assist from Ty Nash and Ty Prefontaine, giving the Canes a 2-0 lead.

The mid-way point in the frame ticked by. Then, with four minutes remaining, the Pats’ Zack Smith took advantage of a power-play to put his team on the scoreboard – scored 2-1.

Just one minute later, Dylan Cozens restored the two-goal lead, off an assist from Alex Cotton and Zack Stringer, making it 3-1 for the Canes.

With 90-seconds remaining in regulation, the Pats pulled their goaly, making way for the Canes to add to their tally. The final goal, on an empty net, came 30-seconds before the buzzer, courtesy of Oliver Okuliar, off a pass from Dylan Cozens.

The Canes win 4-1, after out-shooting the Pats 42-26.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes lead the WHL with 37-points and 17-wins. However, they have played more games than every other team. The team’s next game is Friday (Nov 29), as the Hurricanes host Saskatoon.
