Winter storm should let up by Friday night: Environment Canada

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Southern Alberta has been blanketed by heavy amounts of snow in recent days, but it looks like it might be over soon.

That’s according to Environment Canada Meteorologist Dan Kulak.

“The storm, I think, is past the half-way point here. You still have to get through [Thursday] and tonight, but by the time tomorrow comes around, maybe some light flurries around in the morning, some fairly light winds.”

Friday night is forecast to have cloudy periods while Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are expected to be sunny.

The high on Monday, December 1st is forecast to be plus one and could reach eight degrees by Tuesday.

Kulak told LNN that Environment Canada no longer tracks snowfall data, so he was not able to say how much the region has gotten this week.

“We really don’t have a lot of first-hand data because we don’t have staff in these locations and airports have all gone to Nav Canada and they generally do not measure snow, so we don’t have people there. The volunteers that we have are limited in their own database.”

Castle Mountain reports that they saw 71 cm of fresh snow between Thursday, November 21st and Wednesday, November 27 on their ski hills.

The City of Lethbridge told media the city has gotten around 25-30 cm since the snowstorm started.
