LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta is recognizing local groups who are spreading kindness in the community.

Residents took part in Random Act of Kindness Day on November 1. Their kind acts were reported back to the Community Foundation. They were then entered into a random draw for a chance to win a $500 Kindness Grant to go towards a local registered charity of their choice.

The following organizations have each received a Kindness Grant:

· Big Brothers Big Sisters Lethbridge and District

· Children of St. Martha School, for the school’s student hardship fund

· Fort MacLeod Handibus Society

· Friends Society of Remington-Alberta Carriage Centre

· Lethbridge Detachment Victim Assistance Society

· Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization

· Mountain View School, for the school’s apiary project

· Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, Lethbridge Chapter

· Victoria Park High School, for the Interact Club’s holiday hampers initiative

· Vulcan County Health and Wellness Foundation

“We are delighted to be able to continue the wave of kindness by providing the Kindness Grants,” said Community Foundation Executive Director Charleen Davidson in a release.

“It’s always exciting for us to see the kind acts our community performs and to hear the difference they made to someone’s day.”

In the release, the Community Foundation thanked 1st Choice Savings and TELUS for their support on this initiative.

“We also express our thanks to everyone who helped to make this year’s Random Act of Kindness Day initiative a success,” said the CF.

GIVING TUESDAY

The Community Foundation’s announcement comes on Giving Tuesday, another initiative focused on giving back and brightening someone’s day.

This year marks the 7th annual Giving Tuesday. Last year, over 6,500 charities and businesses participated in the global movement.
