KENNETH WALMER GALTS, beloved husband of the late Gertrude Jean (née Vornbrock), passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years on September 6, 2019 at the Milk River Health Centre.
He is survived by his daughters Laurie (Bob) Hartley, Noreen (Tom) Vavrek, Shannon Watson and son Glen Galts; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Walmer Galts was born on November 4, 1938 to Wally and Doris Galts. He grew up in Coutts, attended High School in Lethbridge and continued onto Olds Agricultural School where he obtained his diploma in agriculture.
Ken met Gertrude Vornbrock from Milk River in 1959 and they married February 1960.
Ken was employed by Mellafont Flying Farms for a time and then began farming on his own part time in the spring of 1960. Ken began a second career full time with Canadian Immigration, initially posted at Carway, Alberta then transferred to Coutts where he began to farm again with his father while also working at Immigration.
Ken and Gert began their family together, which eventually totaled four children; Laurie, Glen, Noreen and Shannon.
In 1967 Ken left Canadian Immigration and began farming full time. Then in the fall of 1968 he opened his first sports business, Ken’s Sports in Coutts, selling snowmobiles and accessories. lt was a success and he then relocated the business to Milk River and added motorcycles, boats, campers, fishing gear and a lot more.
Ken’s Sports flourished until 1979 when he sold off stock and closed the business to travel and spread the word of God. Gert accompanied him on many of these trips. He travelled to 17 different countries in a decade.
Ken was the ultimate entrepreneur and just to name a few jobs he had were automobile sales, realtor, custom yard work business, and truck driver. He loved to go fishing, which proved a bit harder in the past few years and he had to hang up that fishing rod, and settle for cribbage, puzzles and bingo.
Dad enjoyed his home at the Prairie Rose Lodge while waiting to join Gert who passed away October 27th, 2018. The family would like to thank Dr. Krog and the wonderful staff at the Milk River Health Centre.
Rest in Peace Dad
A Private Family Gathering to celebrate Ken’s life will be held at a later date.
