C. ERMINE HOWELL (née Eccles) passed away peacefully at her special Glamping home in King Arthur Lakefront Resort, on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the age of 80 years.
Ermine is survived by her husband Harold Howell; children Julienne (Daniel) Dyck, Suzanne (Michael) Heggaton and Joanne (Darrell) Peters; grandchildren: Tammy, Terry, Allan, Alyssa, Andrew, Stephen (Josie), Johnathon and Sarah as well as numerous great grandchildren that she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister Beryl Brannigan (Eccles) and nieces and nephews in Wales.
Ermine joins her Mum, Sarah Eccles and Dad, Cecil Eccles; sisters Cynthia Millington (Eccles) and Sheila Jones (Eccles).
On the evening of her passing, there was a wicked thunderstorm with lighting and rain. We figured they met Mum in Heaven and proceeded to have a party with their favorite song Cherokee Nation (Indian Reservation) by Paul Revere & The Raiders (1968).
Ermine was born Sept 2, 1938 in Flint, North Wales. She fell in love with her soul mate Harold Howell in 1955 and they married on August 27,1958. Harold enlisted into the British army in 1958 and became a Welsh Guard. While stationed in Germany in 1962, she became pregnant with twins, and went back home to delivery them. Then in 1964, she returned to Wales from Germany for the birth of her last child. They had a perfect family with three girls. Ermine was trained in pediatric nursing and loved what she did.
The family immigrated to Canada in 1975 and started our new lives in Gimli, Manitoba. In 1977, the family moved to our forever home in Lethbridge, Alberta. Ermine started working in Narnia Daycare with Jean Staudinger. She was instrumental in the lives of so many children and the parents, she truly loved all her children. In 1982, Aslan Daycare was opened and the staff from Narnia made the move to Aslan. Ermine loved being with the children; her strength and unconditional love for all of her children was evident in the family atmosphere that she inspired daily at Aslan. Her staff were very important and she wanted everyone to feel special and be able to talk to her. She loved sharing her knowledge not only with the staff but also with the parents.
She fought so many battles with cancer and conquered them. This time, the cancer was terminal. She handled this battle with a strength and determination. Our families had to time to spend with her, there was no regrets that she didn’t know how much she was loved.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with Barb Roycroft officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, with a reception back at Cornerstone.
