It is with profound sadness that the family of JEFFREY OLSON announce his passing on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the age of 57, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jeff was born January 23, 1962 in Calgary. He spent most of his early years growing up in Lethbridge, graduating from CCH in 1980. After high school, he went on to pursue a career as a journeyman electrician, which led him to oilfield construction and finally a career in the oil patch, specializing in electrical submersible pumps. His career embodied his love of life and sense of adventure, taking him to faraway places all over the world. He married his best friend Deb in Waterton, his favourite spot on earth, in July of 2000 and experienced his greatest joy in life when Wyatt arrived and he officially became a Dad.
Although Jeff travelled extensively for work, some of his favourite trips were close to home, camping and climbing in the mountains with close friends and feeling the wind in his face as he cruised on his Harley. In the early 90s he travelled to Southeast Asia, where he solo-trekked to Everest base camp.
He had a lifelong passion for almost anything with wheels and spent countless hours throughout his life collecting, fixing, shining, researching, buying, selling, cruising, racing, showing, tinkering with and talking about them. He was affectionately known as a “car guy” amongst his many friends and co-workers. He had a sharp and sometimes sarcastic wit, a wicked sense of humour and a keen sense of adventure that often had him trying crazy things. He loved to make people laugh and rarely met a dog that didn’t like him instantly. He loved history, astronomy, science fiction, good beer and the mountains. He loved his family and friends deeply.
He is survived by and will be forever missed by his wife and best friend, Deb Olson and their son, Wyatt; his parents, Don & Rosemarie Olson and his sister Lori Olson (Trever Miller), all of Lethbridge. He also leaves to cherish his memory, Deb’s mom, Joan Friedman of Phoenix, AZ; his sister-in-law, Carol Getz (Glenn Getz) and their children Kyle, Megan and Tanisha and his great niece, Bria, all of Medicine Hat. He also leaves numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and tons of friends, many of them life-long friends, who loved him dearly. Also missing and looking for Jeff are his two cats, Floyd and Pepper.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Horace & Nora Olson and maternal grandparents, Fred & Leona Taylor and his father-in-law, Ed Nelson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. with Father Roque Pereira officiating. Jeff loved and was most comfortable in his favourite blue jeans. Feel free to show up wearing your favourite blue jeans – he would have really liked that.
